Distributor rotor. Porsche 944S / 944S2 / 968. 16V engines
Porsche Original Part. Distributor rotor. The "rotor" head is fixed on top of the distributor shaft, which is driven and thus synchronized by a gear on the engine's camshaft. This rotor is pressed against a carbon brush at the center terminal of the distributor cap, which is either connected to the ignition coil through the top and wired directly to the coil in HEI systems, or connected remotely to the ignition coil via the center terminal in point ignition systems. The rotor is designed so that the center tongue is electrically connected to its outer edge, allowing the voltage arriving at the center post to travel through the carbon point to the outer edge of the rotor.
