Adjustable camshaft gear | Porsche 924S / 944 / 944 Turbo (8V)

Adjustable camshaft gear (timing belt gear) for the 8V engines of the Porsche 924S, 944 and 944 Turbo. The cam timing can be adjusted without removing the gear.

When the cylinder head or engine block of the 944 engine is machined flat, the distance between the camshaft gear and the crankshaft pulley decreases. The belt effectively becomes longer and the cam timing is retarded compared to standard. The adjustable gear lets you compensate for this: advancing the cam timing lowers the engine speed at which peak power occurs, retarding it has the opposite effect.
