Description

Lateral support clamps support anti-roll bars (ARBs), which play an important role in the suspension system by transferring cornering load from one side of the vehicle to the other, thus reducing body roll. Anti-roll bars are often attached to the chassis using rubber bushings, which ensure that the anti-roll bar works as intended.

To prevent lateral movement, anti-roll bar bushings are often bonded at the factory, secured by stops on the anti-roll bar, or held exclusively by the clamping pressure of the rubber. If this material wears out and needs to be replaced, bonded bushings from the original equipment manufacturer are often only offered as expensive complete assemblies.

A cost-effective alternative is the use of unbonded polyurethane bushings, as offered by Powerflex. In most cases, the friction of these bushings prevents any lateral movement of the anti-roll bar. However, during aggressive or fast cornering, a laterally shifting anti-roll bar can reduce the efficiency of the system and unpredictably alter driving dynamics. There is also a risk that the anti-roll bar may come into contact with other components of the chassis.
