Details at a glance
- Powerflex support clamp for stabilizers
- Prevents the stabilizer from slipping sideways.
- Supports the function of the stabilizer bushings
- Cost-effective alternative to complete OEM stabilizers
Description
Lateral support clamps assist anti-roll bars (ARBs), which play a crucial role in the suspension system by transferring cornering loads from one side of the vehicle to the other, thus reducing body roll. Anti-roll bars are often attached to the chassis via rubber bushings, ensuring that the anti-roll bar functions as intended.
To prevent lateral movement, stabilizer bushings are often glued in place at the factory, secured by stops on the stabilizer bar, or held solely by the clamping pressure of the rubber. If this material wears out and needs replacing, glued bushings are frequently only offered by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) as an expensive complete assembly.
A cost-effective alternative is the use of unbonded polyurethane bushings, such as those offered by Powerflex. In most cases, the friction of these bushings prevents any lateral movement of the stabilizer bar. However, during aggressive or fast cornering, a laterally shifting stabilizer bar can reduce the system's efficiency and unpredictably alter the vehicle's dynamics. Furthermore, there is a risk that the stabilizer bar will come into contact with other suspension components.
