Track rod end. The rack steers the front wheels via two track rods, which are attached to the swivel hubs by replaceable joints – the ‘track rod ends’. These will wear out over time, leading to steering and handling problems and are a common MOT failure in the UK, and presumably in other countries' statutory inspections too.
