This cable is the crucial connecting element for the automatic heating control (Heiztronic) in the Porsche 911. It transmits the movement of the electric actuator motor (usually mounted between the front seats) to the heating flaps on the heat exchangers in the rear.

If this cable is torn or stretched, the actuator motor will be audibly working, but the heating flaps will not open, and the interior will remain cold (or the heating can no longer be switched off). Since manual heating systems and automatic climate control systems use different cables, this part is exclusively for vehicles with the factory option "Automatic Heating".
