The mat is installed in the engine compartment – typically on the firewall or the underside of the engine cover – and performs two functions: it dampens engine noise entering the passenger compartment and reduces radiant heat transfer to adjacent components. The shape matches the original contour for a precise fit. With age, these mats can sag or tear, leading to increased engine noise in the passenger compartment and reduced heat protection.
